It's like an umbrella so as the yeast drops out and falls to the bottom it compacts. The bottom has a 15mm solid cup in the picture and the spear is pushed into that which also has the filter surrounding it to hold back the leaf dry hop.

Makes sense, the umbrella means a clear first pint. Did they fine with isinglass? Did they dry hop kegs in the 80s? And there was ullage on kegs then, unlike now?

Was that you standing precariously on a stack of casks to stir the boiling wort at @ 22 seconds?

No. I came later after Daenerys and her Tax dragon and army of baddies tore through the place. >:D
